Slow Mornings

When the heat arrives on the North Devon coast, so do the people, I mean, where else in the world would you want to be?!
This is when it pays to be up early, sketch bag and thermos of tea packed, and head down to the beautiful coastline for a bit of quiet appreciation of where I live.
The morning sun brings lovely bright light and the colours have a glow about them, perfect scenes to capture in my sketchbook for an hour or two before work... with a little paddle thrown in for good measure of course... I'm not brave enough to join the wild swimmers yet!
I have a compact set up for painting plein air, 5 or 6 colours, a glazed tile, one brush, a jar of water and a sketchbook... I try to keep it simple and go straight in with the darks and a decent size brush, no faffy tiny details!
It is a kind of meditative way to start the day, quiet stillness and the sound of the sea lapping the shore.
