26 Mile Sponsored Walk for the Oakhaven Hospice

26 Mile Sponsored Walk for the Oakhaven Hospice

This summer I took on the challenge of walking 26 miles for charity... we lost my lovely Dad last summer and this gave me the opportunity to give a little back to a fantastic hospice who were there for us at the darkest time.

I suffer from Rheumatoid arthritis and my feet are generally an impossible mess and I have been unable to walk more than 3 miles without pain for quite a few years so the challenge was set... fortunately I was prescribed new drugs and, miraculously, in the run up to the walk, my feet have never been better!

I prepped well and thankfully didn't need to take the poncho as the weather was perfect, sunny with a light breeze.

We set off at 8.30am at Sandbanks in Poole following the promenade all the way to Hengistbury Head, the worst thing was being able to see that entire distance from the start ...it took a long time for it to get any closer!

Of course I set myself up to do a few quick sketches along the way.

Mudeford Quay was the halfway point and I was definitely ready to pick up a sandwich, strap up my feet and meet up with one of my besties for a few miles of company. At Barton on sea I met my sister and we walked the last 8 miles together.

All went well until I hit the wall with 3 miles to go... wow it was painful, humour and hilarity were the only things to drag my sorry self across the line!!

I'm eternally grateful to my Sister for getting me there!

Thank you to everyone who sponsored me, helping me to raise over £1000 for the Oakhaven Hospice.
